Our 3rd Board Retreat.

In June 2010, St. Louis Earth Day began a new tradition. Two years ago, the organization’s two full time employees and 12-odd Board of Directors traveled to a cabin in the woods surrounding Sainte Genevieve, near Hawn State Park, for an uninterrupted 24 hours of focus on why we love SLED and how can we make it the best organization possible.

At work on the screened porch with facilitator, Steve Lawler (standing).

A relatively young organization that had gone through a year of staffing changes, the first retreat focused on a review and refinement of our strategic plan. With a better grasp of who we were, we examined the organization, its mission, programs and goals in year two. This year, fueled by a growing staff and board, we honed in on our vision statement.

So, we packed up and car-pooled our way down South to Sainte Genevieve where we got to work in the woods evaluating what SLED means to us and where we’d like to see it go and accomplish. A theme of our retreat was to recognize the positive energy that the staff and board exude, and how that helps to attract and retain volunteers.

We look forward to sharing our vision statement in the coming weeks. View more photos from the board retreat from our flickr.
