2024 By the Numbers

2024 was a year to remember for earthday365! With a shared commitment to building a more equitable and sustainable St. Louis region, our dedicated volunteers, generous donors, sponsors, hardworking staff, and collaborative partners came together to make incredible impacts. From diverting a total of 13,361,225 lbs from the landfill, to certifying 14 more local restaurants into the Green Dining Alliance, we’ve achieved remarkable progress across all our programs. We’re excited to share the highlights of what our amazing community has made possible this year!

 

2024 St. Louis Earth Day Festival

  • 20,300 attendees
  • 196 sustainable vendors
  • 94% waste diversion rate
  • 645+ volunteer hours

Green Dining Alliance

  • 14 new restaurants certified
  • 27 recertifications
  • 29 members composting, 26 receiving our compost subsidy
  • 7 outreach presentations/trainings
  • Hosted 12 STL Green Drinks, connection events for environmental professionals
  • 2nd Annual St. Louis Food Waste Challenge
    • 6 GDA participants: Olive + Oak, Sugarwitch, Flavor 360, SqWires Restaurant and Market, Alpha Brewing Company, Panorama at St. Louis Art Museum
      1322.64 lbs of food waste diverted from landfill
    • 90 lb decrease in compost across all 6 restaurants after food waste reduction
    • At least 12% in food cost savings among most participants during Challenge period of October; Panorama saved $5657!
    • Panorama began composting for the first time with help from our subsidy
    • Olive + Oak reduced food waste by 60%!
    • All participants have signed up for our new Food Waste Champion Track to continue their commitment

Recycling On the Go

  • 29 full service events in 2024
  • 14 DIY events in 2024
  • 88,979 lbs of waste diverted
  • Hard to Recycle Fairs (July & November)
    • 23,402 lbs of hard to recycle items diverted from landfill
    • 473 total attendees

Too Good To Waste

  • Total 14,907,479 impressions on our educational food waste ads across social media, billboards, magazines, radio, and more

Community Grant Awards

  • $30,970 total grant dollars awarded to local businesses, schools, and nonprofits
    • 23 recipients of mini-grants for plastic waste substitution
  • $6240 total in compost subsidies given to 26 restaurants
