Ways to Engage Through our Recycling On the Go Program

We are connecting with community partners and organizations to create Environmental Justice Days of Action (EJDA). We provide promotion and volunteer support to help them achieve their goals in addressing illegal dumping and food apartheid.

Event recycling and compost opportunities at area events and festivals will involve helping setup our equipment, engaging with attendees to sort waste, and hauling recycling and compost at our signature waste stations.

Volunteers – Environmental Justice Days of Action

We have reached out to several community partners and continue to seek other opportunities for the future. If you know of anyone that could benefit from our support, please have them contact us at info@earthday-365.org.

Upcoming events that need volunteers and registration links can be found HERE.

Volunteers – Event Recycling and Composting

If you like getting your hands dirty, sharing your passion for recycling and composting with others, and feeling satisfied that you made a real difference – then you’re in the right place! Recycling On the Go (ROG) is looking for individuals to help green events around St. Louis, and promote it through marketing and media.

The program provides recycling and composting services to special events around the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Volunteers need to be vaccinated for COVID-19 and should be prepared for standing for a significant period of time (2-8 hours) and bending/leaning/twisting frequently, as well as occasionally lifting heavy objects. Events employ a “no-shame” waste station model where volunteers are needed to help attendees sort their waste into compost, recycling, and landfill. In this case, heavy lifting and bending is not required. If you are concerned about the physical requirements of volunteering, please contact us – we will make sure you know what to expect and we will make accommodations as best we can.

Closed toed shoes are required. We provide plastic disposable gloves. Please be prepared for rain or shine. During the events, depending on the size of the crowd, monitoring the bins and changing out the recycling bags can be leisurely or high energy. We encourage all ROG team members to explore the events that we service and take breaks when needed.

Our 2023 Calendar of Events:

  • Food Truck Friday Events in Tower Grove Park: June 9, June 23, July 14, July 28, August 18, September 8, September 22
  • Harvest Festival in Tower Grove Park – Sunday, October 8.

Ongoing Community Science

  •  Plastic Waste Pollution Community Science: Be a part of Community Science using the Marine Debris Tracker mobile app to help researchers get a snapshot of plastic waste pollution in the Mississippi River watershed from Minnesota to Louisiana as you pick up litter that would otherwise end up in our waterways and oceans. 9 million tons of plastic waste ends up in our oceans annually.Ways to engage:
    1. Download the app on your phone and do it on your own anytime all year round (the collected trash should be disposed of in your trash)
    2. Use the MRCTI list to record data in the St. Louis region.

About Volunteering with Recycling On the Go:

“I just wanted to let you know that the recycling station job was a big hit. Having someone around who understood the recycling process made the whole thing a hands-on learning experience…Every time Bill was at my station, people asked a ton of questions. I never thought 2 hours sorting garbage could be fun! Thanks for giving me the opportunity!”
