Waste Diversion by the numbers at Festival of Nations
Despite the weather, International Institute’s Festival of Nations in Tower Grove Park August 23rd-24th, attracted huge crowds allowing Recycling On the Go to collect more compostable and recyclable waste than prior years’ Festivals. More than 10,000 lbs. of recycling and nearly 1,200 lbs. of compost were collected by the ROG staff and kept out of the landfills. Additionally greater than 600 pounds of cooking oil was collected from the food vendors to be converted into bio fuel.
The ROG staff and 22 volunteers managed to keep cool by drinking coconut water provided by Jay’s International market. We applaud their dedication to educating festival attendees about recycling and composting, despite the record heat over the weekend.
