Scope:  Seeking recent graduates or college students (in their final year of study) currently working toward a marketing, communications, or related degree, to assist St. Louis Earth Day staff with marketing the St. Louis Earth Day Festival. Internships are non-compensated, but are golden opportunities to gain critical experience, contacts, and skills that will make a difference on a resume. Candidate will work side by side with staff during the entire event. Internship time frame: Mid-December 2018 to early May 2019.

Description:  Candidates need to be dedicated, flexible, and have strong interest in obtaining significant marketing experience, strategy,  knowledge, and skills for large, public outdoor events. Experience with Adobe Suite and Google Drive preferred. Social media and MS Office Suite experience is a must. Candidate must have passion and allegiance for sustainability practices and belief in the St. Louis Earth Day mission, and have own transportation or reliable alternative.

Time requirement:

  • Bi-weekly Festival planning meetings beginning in December
  • Full-day availability at Recycling Extravaganza (April 7, 2019)
  • Availability at an evening vendor orientation, a volunteer training, and a post-Festival session
  • Up to 15 hours weekly availability in March
  • Up to 10 hour daily availability from Friday, April 26 – Monday, April 29
  • More time as needed to be discussed with supervisor

Event Details:  The 2019 St. Louis Earth Day Festival 30th Anniversary will be held on April 27-28, 2019 on the Muny grounds in Forest Park. Event hours for both days will be 11 am – 5 pm. The Festival is known for being the epicenter for all things sustainability in the St. Louis Region, featuring cutting edge green technology which is introduced to the world at the event.

St. Louis Earth Day Festival is the longest running Earth Day celebration in the U.S. and largest, most sustainable Earth Day event in the country. Attendance in 2018 was estimated at 45,000+ with about 250 vendors participating, which encompass a variety of green services, products, and social endeavors. Twenty-plus restaurants, most of which are certified in our Green Dining Alliance (GDA) program, provide sustainably grown, produced, and prepared food items, many of which are vegan or vegetarian dishes. Live entertainment by local talent performers run continuously throughout the event on 2 stages. Educational and art activities are available during the event that are inclusive for all ages. Experience areas at the Festival include: Arts & Crafts, Earth Day Cafe, Energy & Green Building, Down On the Farm, Home & Family, Pets, Nature & Wildlife, Pit Stop, Reduce/Reuse/Recycle, Social Sustainability, Sponsor Row, Alternative Transportation & Fuels, Wellness & Spirituality, and Youth Corner.

Festival Marketing/Sponsorship Assistant Intern (Assistant to Executive Director)

  • Sponsorship portion of internship begins December 2018 (date TBD)
  • Learn non-profit organization strategies for sponsor recruitment and logistics documentation
  • Work with Executive Director to coordinate donation drive at Festival
  • Lead coordinator for Earth Day Challenge prizes
  • Create and execute marketing communications schedules for Festival:
    • Communications with vendors/sponsors
    • Communications with attendees (newsletters, emails, social media, etc.)
    • Communications with volunteers
  • Assist with writing website content and coordinate Festival photography
  • Assist on site with vendor meetings and volunteer orientation
  • Assist Board Marketing Committee
  • Help create and coordinate printing of all needed printed materials for Festival
  • Assist with Media Advisories (press releases)
  • Assist on site with vendor meetings and volunteer orientation
  • Work on site at Festival in leadership role
