America Recycles Day Challenge

If you did not know, Monday is America Recycles Day. We have a lot of fun making Earth Day Every Day through our Recycling On the Go program, and we’d like to invite you to have a little fun with it as well. If you participate in an America Recycles Day (ARD) activity–take a photo of it and post it on our Facebook page. At the end of the day on Monday, we’ll choose the top three based on general awesomeness and post them on our website for voting; and then, you will have the opportunity to pick the winner of our challenge, who will receive the “Eco-Home” prize package with fabulous contributions from 2010 St. Louis Earth Day Festival vendors.

Step 1: Do something cool (and relevant) for America Recycles Day (can be completed throughout the weekend, not just on Monday). For some ideas–click here.

Step 2: Take a picture of whatever cool you, your co-workers, your family, or friends, etc. do.

Step 3: Post a photo (ONLY 1, please!) on our Facebook page by 9pm on Monday, November 15th.

Step 4: Wait,… but not for very long. St. Louis Earth Day staff will pick three top submissions based on the general awesomeness of the activity portrayed, the ARD or Earth Day-themed costumes, the scope of impact, the relevance to ARD, the number of people involved, the number of animals involved, etc.

Step 5: Vote for your favorite of the top three from our website Tuesday through Friday at 11:30am.

Step 6: Congratulate yourself for winning the following in the first ever ARD Challenge: $50 gift certificate & 25%/10% coupon to Habitat for Humanity ReStore; Habitat for Humanity aluminum bottle & re-usable shopping bag; a 50 gallon rain barrel (painted to your liking!) from Robinson’s Rain Barrels, $50 worth of gift certificates to Sappington Farmer’s Market; (2) 20-minute massages w/free spinal check-up by Healthcare Complete; and “eaarth: making a life on a tough new planet” book by Bill McKibben

Winner will be announced at 12noon on Friday, November 19th on our Facebook page and website.

Please remember to….

  • Think. Please don’t prepare an elaborate recycling plan that may injure or damage persons, animals or property of any kind. Be safe.
  • Please post photos which meet public web standards of appropriate conduct. If you photo is not deemed “appropriate” by staff, it will be reported as such and removed immediately.
  • Get creative!
  • Ordering pizza from Pi online from their Kirkwood or Chesterfield locations does count as an appropriate ARD activity, if documented, because when done so–Pi will donate to St. Louis Earth Day! We love our sustainable buddies!
