earthday365, and two of its Green Dining Alliance program members, restaurants Eleven Eleven Mississippi and Vin de Set Rooftop Bar & Bistro, invite friends to gather and break bread on Tuesday, June 25 in tribute to the late Anthony Bourdain, whose extensive travels and innate curiosity about the world’s cuisines and cultures touched people everywhere and transcended all cultural and socio-economic boundaries.

On this date, diners at either restaurant will have the opportunity to enjoy a special 3-course menu in celebration of what would have been this intrepid and thoughtful world travelling chef and writer’s 63rd birthday. Proceeds from the dinner, on the day chefs have nationally proclaimed “Bourdain Day,” will benefit earthday365’s Green Dining Alliance program, which helps local restaurants lessen their environmental impact. For reservations, contact Eleven Eleven Mississippi at (314) 241-9999 or Vin de Set at (314) 241-8989.

The chefs of Eleven Eleven Mississippi and Vin de Set have each created a tantalizing 3-course menu celebrating the Milan and Lombardy regions of Italy and the Paris region of France in commemoration of the man who opened our eyes to food, culture and adventure. Each restaurant’s 3-course menu will be priced at $34.99 before tax and tip and can be paired with wine for an additional $12.99. A portion of the proceeds from these special menus will be donated to Earth Day 365’s Green Dining Alliance program, whose work with local restaurants throughout our region is helping to reduce their environmental impact.

Since inception, the Green Dining Alliance (GDA) and its restaurant partners have diverted hundreds of tons of material from the landfill, have lowered the emissions of our region and support our local food system. All GDA restaurants are styrofoam-free.

“What better way to celebrate “Bourdain Day” than with our diners and friends at earthday365 and the Green Alliance, said Hamilton Hospitality’s Wendy Hamilton. “Anthony Bourdain connected the world through good food and good conversation. The work of earthday365 and the Green Alliance connects us to make St. Louis a greener, stronger community. Just as Anthony Bourdain was considered a rock star in the chefs’ world, earthday365 and the Green Dining Alliance are rock stars in local sustainability.” Longtime friends of the late chef are paying tribute to their fellow culinary connoisseur on June 25, “Bourdain Day,” and are encouraging others to share their tributes and memories using #BourdainDay.

“We encourage those who come out to dine with us on Bourdain Day to share their tributes, photos and celebrations on the 25th using #Bourdain Day, #earthday365 and #EatGreenSTL,” said earthday365’s Executive Director Jen Myerscough. “Anthony Bourdain, with his extensive travels and curiosity about the world’s cuisines and culture embraced values held sacred to many. We look to those locally, right here in our community, to engage in a greener lifestyle and share with others their values of how their day-to-day actions can impact our environment.”

earthday365 is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that engages people and organizations to make everyday sustainability real and permanent for St. Louis. Its work empowers our community to create a greener St. Louis through our programs: Recycling On the Go, the Green Dining Alliance and its annual Earth Day Festival.

The Green Dining Alliance (GDA) provides education, resources and training to restaurants and diners about sustainable practices, including recycling, composting, sourcing local ingredients, energy reduction strategies, and eliminating Styrofoam. The Green Dining Alliance continues to grow, certifying restaurants in sustainability and practical, pragmatic strategies to cultivate a greener St. Louis. Currently,116 local restaurants are members of the Green Dining Alliance.

Eleven Eleven Mississippi restaurant was opened in 2003 by Paul and Wendy Hamilton in what was originally a burned out 100-year-old warehouse. Inspired by their love for the Tuscan & Northern California wine regions, it was an instant success and the beginning of what has turned out to be a thriving multi-concept restaurant group known as Hamilton Hospitality.

Vin de Set, St. Louis’ first downtown rooftop restaurant and bar was opened by the Hamiltion’s in 2006, serves approachable French Cuisine and is recognized annually on multiple “Best of” lists for French and Outdoor dining.
Hamilton Hospitality is committed to sustainability and currently operates a 1/2 acre urban garden and a year-round greenhouse for their employee-owned restaurants. Both Eleven Eleven Mississippi and Vin de Set are members of earthday365’s Green Dining Alliance.
