St. Louis Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day

Earth Day is now recognized worldwide as the planet’s most significant civic engagement event each year. The 50th anniversary of Earth Day will be marked by tens of thousands of rallies and community events in every country in the world, including St. Louis!

President Richard Nixon & First Lady Pat Nixon plant a tree to recognize the first Earth Day.

On April 22nd, 1970, the first Earth Day took place with the participation of 20 million Americans. At the time, this was 10% of the entire United States population.

This monumental day sparked environmental action worldwide. Resulting in the creation of the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Earthday365 is proud to partner with the Earth Day Network, the global coordinator of Earth Day, to join other citizens, cities, states, and countries, and mark this important anniversary with events and activities throughout the year.

The 2020 St. Louis Earth Day Festival will be held in Forest Park on April 25-26. This event will be included on the Earth Day Network‘s list of significant global events. Having brought up to 60,000 attendees, this St. Louis event is known for its array of environmentally-focused vendors and exhibitors, and variety of food options provided by restaurants that are certified by one of our year-round restaurant sustainability certification programs, the Green Dining Alliance.

The St. Louis Earth Day Festival is a community tradition to learn about sustainable products and services offered by local businesses and organizations, meet local area non-profits that share environmental values, as well as showcasing local food and entertainment. It also encourages attendees to take the #EarthDayChallenge that is comprised of three main components:
