Hard to Recycle Fair

The Hard to Recycle Fair, co-sponsored by AI-CHESS ((Artificial Intelligence for Coupled Human Environment System Analysis for Sustainability) Lab @Saint Louis University, The North Newstead Association, Alderwoman Pamela Boyd, and earthday365, will feature multiple vendors accepting donations from furniture and clothing to electronics and specialty equipment. ***Note: Electronics recycling fees will be waived for attendees while funding lasts. Come early to take advantage!

Logistics for the November 9th event
Enter the Drive-thru Recycling Drop-off from Goodfellow Blvd. Cars will loop through the parking lot to drop off items with our amazing recycling vendors. Please have your items easily accessible so unloading can run smoothly. Once you complete the drive-thru drop-off, park to enjoy the food trucks and fun! Our volunteers will be there to guide you every step of the way. View the map below for a parking layout.

  • ADA Parking in the North Lot
  • General Parking is available in the South Lot and North Lot
  • Bike Parking will be available. Please bring your own bike lock.
  • Public Transit Options: Use the “Plan Your Trip” feature to find the most accessible route.

Fun
earthday365 is partnering with SLU to offer educational and family fun programming during the Fair. There will also be a trivia wheel with prizes and interactive games to learn more about the recycling process.

Food  
Free coffee and empanadas from Green Dining Alliance certified Coffeestamp while supplies last!

UNACCEPTABLE ITEMS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Hazardous materials
Paint of any kind
Prescription drugs
Alkaline and lithium batteries
CDs, DVDs, VHS, and floppy discs
Smoke detectors

Light bulbs
Mattresses
PCB containing ballast
Any chemical or liquid
Tires with rims or large tires, such as tires for tractors or other large machinery.

Any tank or cylinder
Exit signs
Small fabric scraps under 1 yard
Pillows and cushions

  • Cathode ray tube (CRT) TVs; less than 26″ $30; 27″ or greater $50 *
  • Console & rear projections TVs $50 *

  • Lawn appliances (oil and fuel must be removed)
  • Freon containing items (AC units, refrigerators, etc.) $10 *

* These fees are subsidized through a grant, so free with a limit.  When we exceed the subsidy, you may be charged.

Fabric

  • Fabric must be in pieces 1 sq. yd. or larger. Small fabric scraps will not be accepted.

New or used clothing/household linens, blankets, towels, draperies, etc.
All items should be:

  • Dry and free of mildew
  • Off hangers
  • Placed in trash bags or baled

Paired wearable shoes

  • Shoes either tied, rubber banded or paired in same box.
  • Usable shoes/work boots with no soles peeling, broken heels, or holes.
  • No winter insulated boots, house slippers, metal spikes, roller blades, ice skates, or spiked heels longer that 2″
    (roller blades and ice skates can go to Passback)

Belts

  • Functional

We will be accepting regular car tires, motorcycle tires, and bike tires. We do not accept tires with rims or large tires, such as tires for tractors or other large machinery.

Residential carpet and pads

Please note, the carpet cannot:

  • Be wet
  • Contain asbestos or animal waste
  • Be from large commercial or residential sites
  • Be small household rugs
