Recycling Extravaganza Does It Again!
The Recycling Extravaganza’s 5th year continues to grow in popularity. Held in partnership with the St. Louis Community College – Forest Park Campus, our collection event for hard-to-recycle items continues its success. This year, about 400 vehicles unloaded materials to be collected by 16 organizations and businesses for reuse, recycling or appropriate disposal. Over 57,000 lbs or 28.7 tons of waste was saved from going in the landfill!
The following was diverted from area landfills and dump sites, collected by these event partners and sponsors:
1,100 pounds CFL bulbs, 660 various-sized flourescent tubes, 40 other shapes/sizes – Ameren Missouri
54 bicycles – Bicycle Works
500 pounds of prescriptions and over-the-counter medications – Drug Enforcement Administration
770 pounds of polystyrene – EPC
1,800 pounds of broadloom carpet, carpet tile and carpet pad – Flooring Systems, Inc
62 items of used medical equipment – HELP – Health Equipment Lending Program
25 instruments – Making Music Matters
34,716 pounds electronics/appliances + 56 television sets – MRC
2 tons of building materials & tools – Refab
8,010 pounds or over 4 tons building materials – ReStore/Habitat for Humanity
500 pounds of used shoes – Shoeman Water Projec
650 pounds of creative supplies – Teacher’s Recycle Center
470 pounds plastic bags & film – Trex Company
1,512 pounds of clothing to be reused or repurposed – USAgain
