The Best of St. Louis
May it be no coincidence that both the Best Music Festival and Best Festival, as declared in the Riverfront Times’ 2010 Best of St. Louis issue, included event-greening by St. Louis Earth Day’s Recycling On the Go.
The African Arts Festival is not new to St. Louis and has actually had recycling for a few years now. This year, however, it all came together to successfully divert more recyclables from the landfill as ever before. Approximately 8 cubic yards/400 pounds of mostly plastic and cardboard were collected. We are proud of the planning committee, patrons and volunteers who helped in the effort. Congratulations!
LouFest was a big undertaking, (what with trying to do both composting and recycling for some 9,000 music fans), but Recycling On the Go wow-ed patrons and vendors alike with the seemingly effortless management of waste at the event. Prepared to be amazed when I share that we diverted over two tons of recyclables and 800 pounds of compostable service items and food waste from an eternity in area landfills! It was all made possible by the absolutely amazing volunteers who were total rock stars the entire weekend. Congratulations!
But, that’s not all! the Riverfront Times also gets a super high-5 for bringing our program to their events to recycle and compost. We look forward to seeing you at the Best of St. Louis event, where our blue-topped recycling bins and green-topped compost bins will once again provide the logistical magic for hundreds of St. Louisians to exercise their environmental stewardship as they rock out and have fun!
