Being an event- and restaurant-focused organization, earthday365 has pivoted to create more virtual programming as COVID-19 has impacted in-person events and dining out. In order to fulfill our mission of empowering you and your community to create and celebrate a greener St. Louis every day, these programs are focusing on how we as individuals can make a collective effort to reduce our impact on the environment and those around us. Our most recent program, the #EatGreenSTL Virtual Symposium: Celebrating the Local Food Movement, was a day of programs geared towards sustainable practices related to food. We are also launching our Green Your Home Series, giving you more in-depth information to green your home, indoors and out. The first part of the series on recycling and plastic waste will be Tuesday, June 30th at 10am. Stay tuned for more information regarding the Series. To kick off Plastic Free July and Plastic Free Ecochallenge, we are hosting a screening of The Story of Plastic.

In this unprecedented moment, it’s critical to ensure the voices of activists and marginalized communities are heard to stand up to big oil and businesses perpetuating the plastic crisis. Stories and film have a unique ability to bridge divides and bring us together as part of something bigger than ourselves – to connect us and create empathy during perilous times. The Story of Plastic takes a sweeping look at the man-made crisis of plastic pollution and the worldwide effect it has on the health of our planet and the people who inhabit it. Spanning three continents, the film illustrates the ongoing catastrophe: fields full of garbage, veritable mountains of trash, rivers and seas clogged with waste, and skies choked with the poisonous emissions from plastic production and processing. To that end, we hope The Story of Stuff’s new film The Story of Plastic serves as a tool to foster dialogue and create action.

Watch the film on your own without loud popcorn eaters or the unraveling of plastic candies in your ear and then join us via Zoom on July 2nd at 5:30pm for a discussion. Our Program Director Bob Henkel will be joined by Lacy Cagle, Director of Learning at ecochallenge dot org, Karisa Gilman-Hernandez, Community Empowerment Organizer at Dutchtown South Community Corporation, and Sunni Hutton, Director at Blackrock Consulting, to lead the audience discussion after the film. There is limited capacity of views available. To get your link, go to Eventbrite and register and then view The Story of Plastic on your own. See you July 2nd on Zoom!

Register for the Zoom meeting discussion here. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
