Think Global, Act STL!
Most of us have concerns about the environment that seem overwhelming- we’re seeing the effects of climate change, overflowing landfills, dead zones in the oceans – these seem like insurmountable problems outside of our individual control. You’ve heard the expression, “Think Global, Act Local,” but what does it mean in practical, everyday life? What difference can one person make, anyway?
We, as individuals, DO have power to change things for the better – and it starts right here at home. That’s why the theme of this year’s St. Louis Earth Day Festival is ‘Think Global, Act STL.’
Together, we can make a difference. Here are some ways St. Louis Earth Day encourages everyone to ‘Act STL’ every day:
- Through the small decisions we make every day, through our purchases, and our involvement in our neighborhoods.
- St. Louis Earth Day is about supporting local farmers, helping reduce the number of food deserts regionally.
- St. Louis Earth Day is about supporting musicians and artists, helping our art and music scenes flourish.
- St. Louis Earth Day is about directing your dollars towards local, independent businesses and restaurants, keeping our local economy strong.
- St. Louis Earth Day is about learning how to use public transit and bicycles to get to your destination, lowering your carbon footprint.
- St. Louis Earth Day is about teaching and influencing your friends and family through your actions, showing them that environmental action is so easy that anyone can do it.
St. Louis Earth Day is a celebration of all the meaningful, practical ways we can all make a difference. Keep the planet in mind, and take action in your own neighborhood. Every local action is a positive service for our community with an impact that truly stretches around the globe!
St. Louis Earth Day is about meeting you where you are and taking manageable steps towards a greener planet… because Earth Day isn’t just once a year. Earth Day is EVERY day!
Hope to see you all at the 27th Annual St. Louis Earth Day Festival on Sunday, April 24th!
