What’s special about our Festival?

Earlier this week I received an email asking what made our event different. I think she wanted to know more details about our local vendors, numerous hands-on educational activities, or partnerships with community groups and businesses. What came to mind, however, was more about what makes the St. Louis Earth Day Festival special.

The St. Louis Earth Day Festival is the third largest Earth Day celebration in the country but started as a grassroots-organized community event in 1989 by individuals who are still involved in various ways today. From that first event, both the EarthWays center, now an initiative of the Missouri Botanical Garden, and St. Louis Earth Day were established as non-profit organizations striving to provide resources and opportunities for actions every day of every year.

The All Species Parade has been around since the early days of the Festival.

The event remains true to its roots, hosting a myriad of diverse perspectives and encouraging visitors to commit to making their everyday a little more like Earth Day.

Now the Festival is an important fundraising and outreach opportunity for our growing non-profit that holds workshops, events, and runs two successful waste diversion and education programs — Recycling On the Go and the Green Dining Alliance.

Don’t miss this community tradition!

Join us on Sunday, April 21st, 11am to 6pm, in Forest Park  to learn about sustainable products and services offered by local businesses and organizations, meet area non-profits that share the mission of Earth Day, catch local musical acts and performance art, participate in a number of hands-on educational activities, and enjoy diverse cuisine featuring local, organic and vegetarian options.
