Alternatives to using road salt
It seems we may be getting a bit more snow (and ice!) in St. Louis than in recent years. Road salt used as a de-icer is proven to be environmentally damaging. To keep our local watershed a little safer try using sand, kitty litter, or ashes for traction on your steps and sidewalks. See the Deer Creek Watershed Alliance website for more information on other alternatives. See Green Venture’s website for good information on the damaging effects of road salt and some better substitutes.
