$7,000 to support ROG
Just this week we were notified that our grant application to the Employees Community Fund of Boeing St. Louis was successful and that we’ll be receiving $7,000 for our Recycling On the Go program! Funding for our Recycling On the Go (ROG) program is an opportunity to improve the services that we provide to area events and community groups; and, enables us to provide subsidized services for events that have not budgeted for sustainable waste management or have no financial resources.
The Employees Community Fund of The Boeing Company (known as ECF or the Fund) is a unique employee-owned and directed giving program that allows employees to support the needs of their local communities via tax-deductible recurring payroll deductions or one-time gifts.
Employee contributions are either directed to an ECF pooled fund or to an eligible nonprofit of the employee’s choice through payroll deductions or one-time gifts. Boeing pays all administrative costs for the Fund so that 100% of every employee dollar contributed goes to support the community. More than 4,000 nonprofit organizations benefit each year from the average $31 million in employee contributions each year.
ECF is actually made up of many locally owned, employee-managed pooled funds at more than 60 sites around the world. Each Fund tailors its giving to meet community needs.
In 2011, our ROG service was available on 71 event days and experienced by over 1 million event-goers at 35 large area events! Our recycling bins were utilized at 23 community events, charity functions and celebrations through our Do-It-Yourself recycling loan program. We diverted 43 tons of mixed recyclables, organic waste and compostable food service items and spent cooking oil! That’s an average of over a ton of materials diverted from the landfill at each of our 2011 season’s events!
