Metro helping make St. Louis greener.
Metro transit is proud to continue its long-standing sponsorship and partnership with St. Louis Earth Day. Metro is also proud of its role in helping to keep tens of thousands of vehicles off area roads each day, which improves our region’s air quality and reduces our carbon footprint.
Ride the trolley to Earth Day!
Metro’s popular Forest Park Trolley is coming back for its seventh year in service! The bus trolley will start on April 15 and will run daily through September 4. This year, the trolley has been split into two lines, each running every 15 to 20 minutes. From the Forest Park / DeBaliviere MetroLink Station, the blue line circles the west side of the park and services most of the main park attractions including the Muny/Earth Day Festival. The Green Line provides direct service to the Jewel Box and the Science Center.
Metro is proud of its recent accomplishments, including the March 29 celebration of a MetroBus reaching one million miles on the odometer on its original engine and without a mid-life overhaul. The unique milestone was the result of an innovative, internationally-recognized maintenance program that allows Metro to meet the demands that other transit systems would need two or three buses to satisfy. These efficiencies ensure that taxpayer funds supporting public transit are wisely invested and used to their fullest potential.
Metro also recently celebrated the completion of the restoration of the historic Eads Bridge. This was the first comprehensive, full-scale rehabilitation of the 142-year-old Eads Bridge, and it will extend the life of the bridge for decades to come!
It was an exciting 2016 at Metro, and more is on the horizon this year with the completion of the new Civic Center Transit Center project and continued work on the new MetroLink Station at Boyle Avenue.
In addition to operating the Metro transit system for the St. Louis area, Bi-State Development is also proud to promote and expand sustainability inside its workplace each year through the efforts of its employee Green Team.
“Bi-State Development remains committed to delivering a positive impact on the region’s sustainability. Through Metro transit, we’re able to improve air quality and reduce fuel consumption by taking tens of thousands of vehicles off area roadways each day,” said CEO John Nations.
