Riding Transit is a Breeze!

Riding Transit is a Breeze with New Tech Tools

Technologically speaking, these are exciting times at Metro. New transit technologies have made riding the Metro system as easy as ever.

Transit App

Metro recently announced Transit as the official real-time information and trip-planning mobile application for the St. Louis region’s public transportation system. Transit, the leading transport app in North America, counts millions of active users in more than 175 cities worldwide, including tens of thousands throughout the St. Louis area.

“We are excited to partner with Transit, and help our riders access smart, user-friendly technology that makes it even easier to use the Metro system,” said Jessica Mefford-Miller, Executive Director of Metro Transit. “With this app, our customers can check real-time information, get the latest service alerts, look up schedules, and plan multimodal trips – all from the palm of their hand.”

With the app, you can check out nearby transit options and departure times, and easily navigate the region, aided by accurate real-time MetroBus tracking, trip planning, and step-by-step navigation with Transit’s GO feature.

Text Us

It’s now even easier to have your questions answered and to get the transit information you need – quickly, conveniently and all at the push of a button.

Metro Transit has launched a new text messaging and web chat service that allows you to directly connect with Metro Customer Service with any questions about your commute or to ask for help planning your trip, or reach out to Metro Public Safety during your ride with any questions or concerns.

New Text Numbers

Tip: To make it faster and easier to use the new text numbers, add them to your mobile device.

Representatives available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday

Metro Public Safety | 314-300-0188

Web Chat

In addition to the new text features, you can also contact Metro Customer Service directly through the Metro Transit website. Click on the new red chat icon, located on the lower right of every page on metrostlouis.org, to start a conversation with a Metro Customer Service representative using a new web chat feature that works on both computers and mobile devices. The Metro Customer Service web chat is available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Gateway Card

The Gateway Card, Metro’s secure, re-loadable fare card, is now available free of charge at the MetroStore downtown at the 8th & Pine MetroLink Station. You can also pick up a Gateway Card at the Earth Day Festival! Just stop by the Metro booth and step inside the Gateway Info Bus onsite.

Instead of paper tickets or passes, the card contains a computer chip that stores Metro passes or cash value. The fare is automatically deducted when customers tap their card on fare equipment each time they ride.

More convenience: The Gateway Card can be loaded at ticket vending machines at all MetroLink stations, at some transit centers or at the MetroStore.

More security: Customers can register their Gateway Card so the balance is protected if it is lost or stolen.

Less hassle: The Gateway Card stores passes, cash value and discounts (for qualified customers). No need for exact change.

Extra savings: Through a “daily cap” function, customers won’t pay more than a set amount, no matter how many times they ride in a day.

Safety

Metro Transit is offering a new safety tool for you to use in the event of an emergency when commuting on the Metro system, while waiting for MetroLink and MetroBus, and while waiting or walking to the bus stop or MetroLink station.

The Noonlight app will notify law enforcement if you need emergency help when you’re on the Metro system. Metro has contracted with Noonlight, a mobile personal safety application available on iOS and Android devices, to help transit riders feel safer when they’re on the transit system.
